Former Campaign Donor Wife Also Charged

Sen. Bob Menendez Indicted on Corruption Charges

Former campaign donor, wife also charged

Allegations include bribery, conspiracy, and fraud

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey and his wife, Nadine Arslanian, have been indicted on federal corruption charges, including bribery, conspiracy, and fraud. Prosecutors allege that Menendez and his wife accepted bribes in exchange for political favors, including cash payments, gold, and luxury vacations. The indictment also charges Arslanian with obstruction of justice.

Arslanian is a prominent figure in her own right, having co-chaired the finance committee for her husband's 2012 re-election campaign. She has also served as a volunteer for the Democratic Party and has been involved in various charitable organizations.

The charges against Menendez and his wife are the culmination of a multi-year investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey. The indictment alleges that Menendez used his position as a U.S. Senator to benefit his donors, including Dr. Salomon Melgen, a wealthy eye doctor from Florida. In exchange, prosecutors allege, Melgen provided Menendez with bribes in the form of cash, gold, and luxury vacations.

The indictment also charges Arslanian with obstruction of justice for allegedly lying to investigators about her involvement in the alleged scheme. If convicted, Menendez and his wife could face significant prison sentences.
